Yuba City: A Tale of One City

Synopsis

Nestled in California’s Central Valley, Yuba City is home to one of America’s oldest and largest Sikh communities—where Punjabi heritage and American life coexist in extraordinary harmony. Beyond its farmlands and small-town charm lies a century-long story of migration, resilience, and deep-rooted belonging. Each year, nearly 300,000 Sikhs gather for the Yuba City Nagar Keertan, one of the largest Sikh festivals outside India, embodying the spirit of generosity and togetherness that defines this community.

Our documentary paints an intimate portrait of this remarkable place, framed around the life cycle of farming as a metaphor for growth and continuity. From the 2024 Nagar Keertan to the spring planting season, we trace a community whose story defies polarization and celebrates shared human values. Yuba City stands as a living example of inclusion—proof that what unites Americans isn’t background or appearance, but compassion, hard work, and unity in diversity.
