Synopsis
The Stone That Hit Maharaja Ranjit Singh is a short narrative film built around a single incident that became a story. Two boys, caught up in the excitement of a royal celebration, steal mangoes and accidentally send a stone in the direction of the Maharaja himself. The moment of discovery, when they realize what they've done and who they've done it to, is the dramatic center of the film.
What follows is the part of the story worth telling: instead of punishment, the Maharaja responds with generosity, giving the boys gold coins and sending them on their way. The film uses this episode to illuminate something about the character of one of Sikh history's most significant rulers — a man whose reputation for fairness and magnanimity was not incidental to his leadership but central to it. It's a short film with a light touch and a genuine warmth.
