Synopsis
Khalsa Centre is a summer camp built around Sikh values, and this film follows 75 young campers through their time there. The experience is not simply spiritual education delivered in a summer setting. It's an active, multi-faceted program that includes outdoor activities, arts, and, in partnership with Sikhlens, digital filmmaking. The campers learn how to tell stories with a camera, which means they spend their summer both experiencing Sikh community and learning to document it.
The film captures the energy and specificity of what a well-run Sikh youth program actually looks like: young people who are genuinely engaged, discovering that their faith has both depth and a community they want to belong to. The filmmaking component gives the camp a dimension that most summer programs don't have, turning campers into creators and giving them the tools to share their own stories. Khalsa Centre is a film about the investment that a community makes in its next generation, and about what that generation does when it's given real opportunities.
