Sikhs Serving Humanity

When COVID-19 shut down cities across the world, a network of Sikh service organizations responded the same way Sikhs have responded to crisis for centuries: by cooking and distributing food. This film brings together representatives from ten organizations operating across multiple countries — including SWAT in London, Seva Truck, Khalsa Care Foundation, and SEVA Food Bank in Canada — to document what that response actually looked like at scale. At peak, some of these organizations were distributing more than 3,000 meals a day.

The film situates this pandemic response within the longer tradition of Langar, the Sikh practice of communal feeding rooted in the principle that no one should go hungry. What's striking is not just the scale of the effort but the ease of it — these organizations didn't have to invent a model or raise special funds. They already had the infrastructure, the volunteers, and the conviction. Sikhs Serving Humanity is a film about what it looks like when a community's values are built into its institutions rather than just its aspirations.
