Synopsis
Few people know that a Sikh Gurdwara exists in Tehran, or that it has been functioning continuously for many decades. This film gained exclusive access to document it: the prayers, the community gatherings, and the men and women who have maintained a Sikh presence in Iran through political upheaval and international isolation. Sardar Hanam Singh Anand, who has lived in Iran for over 60 years, is the film's central figure — a man who has spent most of his life keeping this small community connected to its faith.
The historical roots of the Sikh presence in Iran go back centuries, rooted in trade relationships involving ghee, cotton, and spices. The community that gathers in Tehran today is small, and their monthly meetings carry the weight of a tradition that could easily have disappeared. Sikh Heritage in Iran is a film about what it takes to maintain a religious and cultural identity in a country where almost no one shares it, and about the quiet persistence of a community that has simply refused to disappear.
