Synopsis
Trishna is a Scottish Sikh woman who founded Sikhs n Jog, a women's empowerment organization based in Scotland, after witnessing firsthand what happens when community expectations close off opportunity. Girls in her community were often pulled out of school at 13, steered away from careers and public life, and left without the tools to advocate for themselves. Sikhs n Jog was built to offer a different path: access to education, employment support, and a space where women could ask questions that weren't always welcome in other rooms.
The film is also an honest look at the contradictions that Trishna navigates. She believes deeply in her faith while pushing back against the way that faith is sometimes used to keep women in place. She raises questions about equality within the Gurdwara — who gets to sit at the front, who gets heard, who is treated as a full participant in community life — without dismissing the institution itself. She Who Questions is a film about a woman who loves her community enough to challenge it.
