Synopsis
On April 13, 1919, British troops under General Dyer opened fire on a peaceful crowd gathered at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, killing hundreds. This film marks the massacre's centenary by giving voice to the people who have held its memory closest: the descendants of those who were there. They tell stories passed down through generations, stories of great-grandparents who survived, of women who broke their wedding bangles to mourn the dead, of families who never received compensation or acknowledgment from the government that ordered the killing.
Scars is not a historical lecture. It is an act of testimony, gathering voices that are still waiting to be heard a century later. Artists, authors, and historians also appear, exploring the massacre through their work and their research, but the film's emotional center is always the families: the people who grew up knowing what their ancestor witnessed, who never forgot it, and who are determined that others should know their names and their stories rather than just the statistics that history reduced them to.
