Synopsis

Niam is a short documentary filmed in Singapore by Austin Cherry, who followed Bajan Singh as part of a project connected to the Sikhlens Film Festival. The film is brief but focused, giving a glimpse into Bajan Singh's life and the world he inhabits in Singapore, where Sikhs have maintained a small but resilient community presence for generations.

The film demonstrates that meaningful documentary work doesn't require a long running time or an elaborate production. Sometimes a camera, a subject, and the genuine attention of a filmmaker is all it takes to create something worth watching. Niam is a snapshot, an intimate portrait from a part of the world where the Sikh story is less commonly told.
