Nasmda

NASMDA, the North American Sikh Medical Dental Association, exists to bring Sikh physicians, dentists, and other healthcare professionals together across North America. The film follows the organization through its conferences and activities, capturing the particular energy of a professional gathering that is also a community gathering: where CME credits and Kirtan coexist, where colleagues become friends, and where the shared identity of being Sikh in a demanding profession is acknowledged and celebrated.

The film is interested in what professional organizations do that goes beyond their stated function. NASMDA gives its members something that their hospitals and clinics can't: a sense that they belong to a community that understands them specifically, not just as doctors and dentists but as Sikh doctors and dentists navigating a professional world that was not designed with them in mind. The networking is real, the community health work is meaningful, and the fellowship is what holds it all together.
