Synopsis
Lord Inderjit Singh, Baron Singh of Wimbledon, is one of the most prominent Sikh figures in British public life. As a life peer in the House of Lords, he has used his position to advocate for Sikh communities, to challenge discrimination, and to ensure that the Sikh contribution to Britain is recognized and valued at the highest levels of government. The film also profiles his wife, Lady Kamaljeet Kaur, whose work in education and community building is part of the same sustained commitment to the welfare of their community.
Together, Lord and Lady Singh represent a particular kind of Sikh presence in British life: deeply rooted in faith and community, fully engaged with the institutions of the country, and unwilling to accept any version of belonging that requires them to be less than fully themselves. The film is a portrait of a marriage and a shared vocation, of two people who have spent their lives in the same direction. It makes the case that public service and religious life are not in tension when the religion you practice genuinely requires you to serve.
