Synopsis

L-Fresh the Lion grew up in Sydney as a child of South Asian immigrants and found in hip-hop a form that could hold the full complexity of his experience: the Sikh values he was raised with, the Australian culture he grew up inside, and the social justice concerns that connect both. His music is direct and politically engaged without being preachy, rooted in the specific realities of life as a visibly different person in a country that doesn't always know what to do with difference.

The film follows L-Fresh through his music and his thinking, capturing an artist who takes his platform seriously without losing his sense of humor about it. His identity as a Sikh is not a brand or a hook. It's simply who he is, and his music reflects that in the same way that his daily life does. L-Fresh is a film about what it looks like when hip-hop and Sikh values turn out to be reaching for the same things, and about an artist who figured that out early and built his whole career around it.
