Synopsis
Jitt De Nishan (The Signs of Victory) tells the story of Bapu Nahar Singh, an elderly Sikh man whose life spans three of Punjab's most painful chapters. As a boy of seven or eight during the 1947 Partition, Nahar lost both parents to communal violence. Raised on the ideals of Bhagat Singh and Kartar Singh Sarabha, he grew up chanting "Inquilab Zindabad" in the streets of his village.
Years later, he and his wife Jind Kaur rebuilt their world around their son Nayab Singh. That world collapsed in 1984 when Nayab was taken and killed by security forces during the anti-Sikh violence that swept Punjab.
Decades on, the couple appeared at the 2020 Farmer Protests, still serving langar and sharing their story with a new generation of young Sikhs gathered in protest tents. Bapu's message to them is direct: the courage passed down from Guru Gobind Singh Ji and from Punjab's freedom fighters can't be stolen by any government.
Directed by Simratpal Saini and Davinder Singh Mahun, the 16-minute Punjabi-language documentary received the Sikhlens Destination S Award.
