Synopsis

Guru Da Kender is a Sikh residential educational center in India that takes in young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and gives them something they might not otherwise have access to: a structured education, training in music, and real support in finding a path forward. The center operates within the Sikh tradition of seva, offering its resources without conditions and treating each student's potential as worth investing in. For many of the youth who come through it, this is a turning point.

The film follows the life of the center and the people who make it function, from the teachers to the students to the staff who maintain the daily rhythms of a place that is both home and school. It shows how education rooted in Sikh values can be deeply practical without being transactional: students learn, grow, and are helped to find employment and build independent lives. Guru Da Kender is a film about what a community looks like when it genuinely refuses to leave its most vulnerable members behind.
