Green Guru

Sikh environmental philosophy is not a recent adaptation. Guru Nanak's teachings placed the natural world at the center of the spiritual life, describing air as the Guru, water as the father, and earth as the mother. Green Guru explores how those teachings are finding expression in the present through concrete environmental action, including the installation of solar panels at Shri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar and a growing movement within the Sikh community to take environmental responsibility seriously as a matter of faith.

The film makes the case that environmentalism and Sikhism are natural partners, not because it's a useful modern framing but because the philosophical groundwork was laid five centuries ago. It shows how individuals and organizations within the Sikh community are translating ancient teachings into present action, from renewable energy projects at sacred sites to the way Sikh agricultural communities are thinking about sustainable farming.
