Synopsis

In rural northern India, access to basic eye care is not guaranteed for millions of people. A Sikh doctor working through CMC Ludhiana is trying to change that, one camp at a time. The film follows his free eye care camps, where cataract surgeries and examinations are provided at no cost to communities that would otherwise have no access to them. For many patients, this is the first time in years, sometimes decades, that they have seen clearly.

The film is not interested in heroizing the doctor. It's interested in the work itself and the people it reaches. The patients who show up to these camps carry with them the accumulated weight of a healthcare system that has too often overlooked them, and their gratitude is neither performed nor polite. It's real. Gift of Light is a film about what seva looks like when it's applied to something as tangible and necessary as sight, and about the quiet transformation that happens when care finally arrives where it's needed most.
