Faith: A Passage Through India

A group of American college students arrive in India with the usual mix of curiosity and unfamiliarity. They are not Sikh, and the Golden Temple in Amritsar was not necessarily the destination they were most focused on. But something happens there. The film captures what it feels like to walk into a space of that magnitude and sincerity and be genuinely affected by it, to encounter a religious practice that is genuinely inclusive, where the langar feeds thousands of people without discrimination and the doors are open to everyone.

The students' reactions are honest and unperformed, which is what makes the film worth watching. It's not about conversion or epiphany in any dramatic sense. It's about the quieter experience of encountering a faith that is visibly doing what it says it believes in, and having that encounter rearrange something in your understanding. Faith: A Passage Through India is a film that's easy to watch with people who know nothing about Sikhism and equally easy to watch with people who have known it all their lives.
