Synopsis
Chaurassi, the Punjabi word for eighty-four, returns again and again to the events of 1984 and to what was left in their wake. The film gives voice to a woman whose story is shaped by that year, by the political violence and its consequences for ordinary families and communities. Her reflections are not detached or historical. They are personal and still present, the kind of testimony that doesn't resolve neatly because the wounds have never fully closed.
The film sits in the difficult space between history and lived experience, between what happened and what it meant to the people who were there. It touches on political commentary and the long absence of accountability that has followed the events of 1984. Chaurassi is a film about the gap between official history and the stories that families carry privately, often for generations, because no one in power has ever bothered to ask.
