Synopsis
Chardikala is one of the most distinctive concepts in Sikh philosophy: the practice of maintaining a spirit of eternal optimism and positive energy regardless of circumstances. It is not denial of hardship but a deliberate, disciplined orientation toward life that refuses to be crushed by difficulty. In this film, artist Kiran Kaur explores that concept through her painting, using the act of creation itself as a demonstration of the principle she's describing.
The film is part portrait of an artist and part philosophical reflection. Kiran's explanations of Chardikala are personal and accessible, drawn from her own experience rather than from doctrine. Her work on canvas and her words together make the concept feel lived-in rather than abstract. It's a film that takes a Sikh teaching seriously without being heavy-handed about it, showing how a philosophy that has sustained people through centuries of hardship remains genuinely useful in an ordinary life.
