Breaking the Silence

Raj is a Sikh teenager who wears a turban to school every day, navigating the ordinary and not-so-ordinary pressures that come with being visibly different in an American classroom. He channeled that experience into something unexpected: research on cochlear implant technology, submitted to the national ExploreVision science competition. His entry won. The film follows both the project and the person behind it, showing how a young man's personal awareness of what it means to be heard, or not heard, shaped the direction of his scientific curiosity.

Breaking the Silence is a film about what happens when a kid decides to use his outsider perspective as a starting point rather than a disadvantage. Raj's turban is present throughout, not as a symbol the film makes a point of, but simply as part of who he is.
